DC-8 Stage 3 Hushkit Safety System Engineering and Certification

Jetaire designed a thrust reverser lockout and warning annunciation system for a DC-8 Stage 3 Hushkit Certification Program. The safety system engineering services included electrical and mechanical engineering, circuit design, structural analysis, and electrical load analysis in support of the Quiet Nacelle Corporation project. The system was designed in compliance with FAR Part 36 Stage 3 noise reduction requirements. The electrical system added throttle and landing gear system modifications with a lockout and warning system. The Jetaire thrust reverser (TR) lockout and warning system monitored 20 inputs from the thrust reversers on all four engines, the ground sensing system, throttle controls, and TR Hushkit.

Jetaire managed the certification program for the Quiet Nacelle Corp. DC-8 Stage 3 Hushkit. Jetaire worked with the FAA and provided certification documentation, testing services, and compliance reviews. Due to the critical safety issues of the Hushkit, the certification program coordinated closely in conformance inspections and to verify safety analyses, structural analyses, FMECA, ground testing, flight testing, and calibration procedures.
